About
Michael Wight is an independent artist from Edinburgh, Scotland. Michael uses a mixture of materials to produce paintings, photography and installation/structural works of art. Taking inspiration from life events happening in real time, and an extensive history of a medical patient perspective, the artwork showcases how the most abstract of an idea can bring thought and emotion into view. Following a series of works being displayed at a group exhibition back in 2012, Michael has since had work displayed at The Scottish Law Commission, The Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh and the Royal Hospital for Sick Children. His first solo exhibition XLA, which gathers his medical and personal history into one long chronological narrative, was displayed at Edinburgh Palette in January 2016. XLA was covered by The Scotsman Edinburgh Evening News and by STV Edinburgh and Glasgow during the time of display at Edinburgh Palette.
Michael's next exhibition, titled CHANGE displayed August 2018 in Edinburgh. The exhibition was displayed at DOK Artists space at Leith Docks.
Following a period of isolation in 2020, his next project, 19/3 - a short mixed media project based during his time of the Covid-19 pandemic - was released in April 2021 online. Waves - his next project created summer 2021 will display online also.
Coming early 2025 is ENJOY LIFE NOW, Michael’s 6th art project, which will display physically in Edinburgh, before going live on this site Feb 2025. ENJOY LIFE NOW, is a brand new collection of paintings, created with a focus on what it means to enjoy life, or see the phrase ENJOY LIFE NOW as a threat, gift, promise or motivator.
